Val Masino is not just for alpinist. It is also a rich itinerary area for demanding excursionist, like Sentiero Roma, one of the most classic and hard high passes in the Alps, that run on the border between Val Masino, Italy and Val Bregaglia, Switzerland with other great passes.

Sentiero Roma offers a long trip at an altitude of 2000 meters and more, along the historical path that goes from Como’s lake to Valmalenco passing through Val Codera, Val Masino and Torre Santa Maria, crossing magical valleys and beautiful refuges.

The path needs 5/6 days of walk. Through this awesome trail every person will admire all the most important peaks like Disgrazia (3678m), Pizzo Badile (3308m), Pizzo Cengalo (3367m), Cima di Castello in Val di Zocca (3386m) and other beautiful summits.

Sentiero Roma is always been an hard excursion regarding physical and experiential preparation; For those who are not professional in this activity it is recommended to do it with the alpine guide help, even if today the most difficult passages are fixed with tested rope in the stone, specify signage in order to make easier the entire activity for every people comes to do it, even amateurs.
Moreover the itinerary is also divided in several part defined by the refuges, so it is possible to choose different mini-trails.

Beyond Roma Trail

Val Masino beyond the Roma trail also provides other excursion that allows people to reach a lot of refuges. There are several chances to take an overnight to stay in some shelters and the day after to continue on the path or turn back to the valley floor. The proposal is recommended specifically to organized group that want to make a first trip and meet closely for the first time the natural alpine environment of Val Masino. There are a lot of offers that includes the ascent until the shelter with the possibility to stay there for three nights at the most. For example: you can do an excursion until Rifugio Omio (2.30 h) and the day after reach Rifugio Gianetti and also go back to the Porcellizzo valley, or you may continue to Rifugio Allievi as well.
